Self-Care is not selfish

If you are anything like me then you will spend most of your week putting everyone else’s needs before your own. So I have made it my New Years resolution to take at least one hour a week for myself (I know, crazy right?) completely guilt free (I'm still working on this part!). Now this might not seem like much but I’m starting small, the guilt free part being the biggest challenge for me.

Below are some of the things I like to spend my time doing in this hour but sometimes it can be as simple as making cup of tea and watching what I want on TV (definitely a Peppa free hour!)

1. Wash, dry and style my hair.

This sounds like a 'basic needs' one but usually in the week it’s a bit of a wash n go situation so when I get some time to myself I like to actually style my hair properly so I can lose the mum bun look for at least one day a week.

2. A Cup of tea and a good book

Last year I tried to read a book a month. I only lasted until April! So this year I’m not putting any time pressure on myself, if it takes me 6 months to get through a book then so be it but I definitely won’t be wasting time on books I’m not enjoying, life is too short. I'm currently really enjoying 'Magpie' by Elizabeth Day. If you like a good thriller then definitely check this out. It's also quite an easy read for my tired eyes.

3. Spending time choosing my outfit (and not necessarily going for the most comfortable.)

Again, this sounds a bit like a 'basic needs' one but in the week I will literally grab the first, and preferably most comfortable thing that falls out of my wardrobe so on the weekend when I have a bit more time (and opportunity to scroll Pinterest first for inspiration) I like to try and look a bit more 'put together'. This will definitely involve taking some time to choose my accessories, my favourite part of any outfit. Below are a couple of my current layering favs.

What are you going to do for yourself this week? Whatever you choose, try to enjoy it guilt free.

Love Cheryl x
